What is Strength? Strength is a skill, talent, belief or ability that your child finds easier to do or enjoys. These strengths can range from creative writing and memorizing facts to recognizing patterns, singing, athletic abilities, craftsmanship, and more. Strengths also include characteristics such as empathy, resilience, confidence, and humor.

Strengths are often identified through three key indicators:
1) Performance: When your child performs above their age average or shows a repeated pattern of success in an activity, it’s likely they have found one of their strengths. Additionally, if they learn new concepts at a rapid rate, this is another sign that the subject matter holds great interest for them.

2) Energy: A strong indicator of strength lies within your child’s energy levels and excitement when engaging in a particular activity. If you notice that they have more energy or are visibly enthusiastic about it, there’s a good chance it’s one of their strengths.

3) High Use: When children voluntarily engage in an activity and speak positively about it, this is another sign that the subject matter holds great importance to them. If your child consistently chooses to participate in or discuss a specific topic, it may be considered one of their strengths.

As parents or caregivers, recognizing these signs can help you better understand your child’s interests and passions. By nurturing and encouraging these strengths, you can support them on their journey towards personal growth and self-discovery. It is essential to remember that each child has unique abilities and talents that should be celebrated and fostered in a way that aligns with their individual needs and aspirations.

In general, identifying your child’s strengths at an early age allows you to create a supportive environment where they can thrive and grow. By observing their performance, energy levels, and overall interest in various activities during play (read more about it here), you can help them develop the skills necessary for success in life while also building their confidence and self-esteem. Remember that every child is different, so it’s crucial to be patient and attentive as they explore and discover their unique strengths along the way.
